What can you repair on my RV?

Whilst repairs proceed, your vehicle will be kept secure under lock and key, enclosed at our premises. Our workshops are big enough to house multiple RV's for extended periods if necessary.
Please note, that as we can get parts and accessories in quickly from a wealth of local suppliers, that we rarely keep or sell specific parts or accessories in stock. 

Can you repair electrical issues in my motorhome?

Yes. CoolCar can diagnose and repair many electrical issues in motorhomes, caravans and RVs, particularly faults relating to appliances, fridges, batteries, charging systems, lighting, control panels, switches, wiring, plugs, sockets, and 12V power supply problems.

RV electrical faults can be frustrating because the issue is not always with the appliance itself. A fridge, heater, pump, light, or control panel may appear faulty, when the real problem is low battery voltage, poor connections, damaged wiring, a failed switch, voltage drop, or an issue with the charging system.

We can test the relevant parts of the system, identify where the fault is coming from, and explain the repair options before going ahead.

Where a job involves regulated mains electrical work or specialist certification, we will let you know and arrange or recommend the appropriate qualified tradesperson. This means you still benefit from our practical RV repair experience, while ensuring any regulated work is completed and signed off correctly.

We repair many RV electrical faults, and if the job requires specialist electrical certification, we’ll make sure the right qualified person is involved.

Do you provide any benefits to NZMCA Members?

Yes! CoolCar Air-Conditioning centres, North Shore, Hamilton and Henderson provide a 25% discount on labour for all caravan and motorhome repairs. Additionally, we also provide a 20% discount on labour on all repairs for those holding a Super Gold membership card. Please note, these two discounts cannot be applied together, rather its one or the other.

Do I need to bring the vehicle to your workshop, or can you come to me?

Unfortunately, our mobile service is reserved for heavy machinery, on-site equipment and trucks and tractors, planes, etc. Coming in and seeing us is the best way to receive the attention your motorhome needs, with the most amount of care. 

Do you provide quotes before carrying out repairs?

Yes. Once we have inspected or diagnosed the vehicle, appliance, or system, we can provide a quote before carrying out repairs.

In most cases, we need to assess the issue first so we can identify the cause of the fault and understand what parts, labour, refrigerant, materials, or specialist testing may be required. This helps us provide a proper quote rather than guessing from symptoms alone.

We will explain what we have found, outline the recommended repair, and provide pricing before proceeding with the work. If anything changes during the repair, or if additional faults are found, we will contact you before carrying out any extra work.

What brands do you work with?

CoolCar is an authorised Dometic Service Dealer, which means we are approved to repair and replace Dometic products and assist with Dometic warranty claims.

We also work with a wide range of other leading motorhome and caravan brands, including Truma, Thetford, Thule, and many others.

Because motorhomes and caravans often use a mix of appliances, accessories, and specialist components, we’ll assess what you have, talk you through the available options, and help match the repair or replacement solution to your needs.

Whether you need an appliance repaired, a fridge replaced, a bike rack fitted, or a roof awning installed, we’ll do our best to recommend a practical option that suits your vehicle, budget, and how you use it.

Can you replace a faulty rooftop air-conditioning unit?

Yes. CoolCar can assess and replace faulty rooftop air-conditioning units on motorhomes and caravans.

Before recommending replacement, we will usually inspect the unit to confirm the fault and check whether repair is a practical option. Some issues may be caused by electrical faults, control problems, poor power supply, blocked airflow, fan faults, or damaged components rather than the whole unit needing replacement.

If replacement is the best option, we can talk you through suitable rooftop A/C options for your motorhome or caravan, including compatibility, size, cooling capacity, power requirements, and availability.

Once the right unit has been selected, we can remove the faulty unit and install the replacement. If any regulated electrical certification or final sign-off is required, we will arrange or recommend the appropriately qualified specialist to complete that part of the job.

Can you perform an EWOF or Gas Certification on my motorhome or caravan?

CoolCar does not issue Electrical Warrants of Fitness (EWOFs) or Gas Certificates ourselves, as these must be completed by appropriately qualified certifiers.

However, we can help with many of the repairs, checks, and preparation work that may be needed before your motorhome or caravan is certified. This includes pre-WOF and pre-EWOF checks, appliance fault-finding, fridge repairs, electrical diagnosis, lighting issues, battery and charging concerns, and general motorhome or caravan repair work.

Where your repair involves LPG fittings, gas connections, ventilation, compliance, or final gas sign-off, we can arrange or recommend a suitably qualified gasfitter to complete the certification side of the job.

This means you still benefit from CoolCar’s practical experience with motorhome and caravan appliances, fridges, electrical systems, accessories, and repairs, while ensuring any regulated electrical or gas certification is completed by the right qualified specialist.

In simple terms: we can help diagnose, repair, prepare, and carry out pre-WOF or pre-EWOF checks, but the final EWOF or gas certification must be issued by the appropriately qualified certifier.

Can you fit customer supplied parts?

Yes, CoolCar are happy for customers to source their own parts if that is your preference, however having not purchased parts ourselves, and without knowing where they came from, we cannot offer any kind of warranty on a part we did not supply. Parts we supply however have a 12-month warranty. 

What happens if parts are hard to find?

CoolCar has its very own parts-finding-specialists. We've been in the industry for a very long time, and had the chance to build a lot of connections. It is very rare for CoolCar to be unable to find parts suitable for your vehicle. 

Our general procedure is to find parts and quote the repair accordingly during the initial 20-45min inspection that we perform on your car. However, on the off-chance that we do need to spend more time searching for the right bits, or speak to our suppliers, we'll will provide a written explination as to what we have found and the parts required, and get back to you with pricing once we have had more time to investigate.

if customer would prefer a second hand component the warranty is either limited to 3 months, or the suppliers guarantee. 

Should I book in advance before coming in?

During the Summer it is imperative that you book in prior to coming in to see us, However, we often still have same-day slots available to be booked, and will go above and beyond to fit you in when it suits you best. We are a Summer seasonal business and are often booked solid during this period, regarding all things, motorhomes, auto electrical and air-conditioning. 

In our off season, the Winter period is much slower, you have a much better chance of being seen to as soon as you walk in the door. 

Do you use aftermarket or genuine parts for repairs?

CoolCar primarily use aftermarket parts for repairs, as they are generally cheaper, more accessible and better reinforced than OEM parts. However, depending on availability OEM parts may be necessary. CoolCar can also fit second-hand parts either according to necessity or customer preference. However, second-hand part usage has a bearing on the provided warranty.

Can you supply A/C parts to me so that I can do the work?

Yes, CoolCar are happy for customers to source their own parts if that is your preference, however having not purchased parts ourselves, and without knowing where they came from, we cannot offer any kind of warranty on a part we did not supply. Parts we supply however have a 12-month warranty. 

Can you inspect multiple issues in one visit?

This depends on the scale of the two issues. Extra time may be required to examine the extent of your troubles, as well as additional charges, that would be discussed prior. takled on a case by case basis.

Why do some of your branches have an initial inspection fee?

All of our branches at CoolCar have an initial inspection unless there is a promotion going on to discount or make inspection's free of charge. 

Do you supply courtesy or loan cars whilst my car is with you?

Yes! CoolCar has a fleet of courtesy available to be provided to you.  These cars are regularly maintained and are free of charge for your conveince. However, CoolCar is not responsible for filling these vehicle with petrol, nor do we expect you to bring the cars back with a full tank. Fuel is your responsibility,. If the car's are in high demand we prefer to have them reserved for customers going ahead with repairs, instead of for those who just have evaluation bookings. 

What payment methods do you accept?

CoolCar accepts Visa, Master Card, Eftpos, Cash, contactles and afterpay payments methods. Additionally, all online transactions made when booking your vehicle in are secured with Stripe. 

Can I drop my vehicle off before or after your working hours?

CoolCar are happy for you to drop your vehicle off outside of our business hours, and have secure locations for you to leave your keys. However, CoolCar cannot take responsibility for your leaving your vehicle parked outside. Please phone to arrange this. 

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Deposits are generally not necessary, however, if we need to order parts internationally, generally not returnable, and with a transit time 7-10days, we may request a deposit to cover the cost of the part and the associated freight. 

What should I bring with me to my appointment?

Yourself, your vehicle and any associated paperwork you may have if you've attempted to have the issue repaired or diagnosed elsewhere. 

Can I have my car repaired under my Mechanical Breakdown Policy?

Absolutely. If you've purchased your vehicle from a second-hand car dealership within the last three years, you may have also purchased a Mechanical Breakdown Policy. If so, you can claim air-conditioning and heating repairs on your policy. 


CoolCar will handle opening the claim and liaising with your Insurance company to provide the necessary information and receive confirmation on repairs. Depending on the policy you purchased and the Insurer, has a bearing on any exclusions from the policy, which are then owed by the customer. We may also ask to have previous service documents provided, as required by your insurance company. 


Upon having the quote approved by your insurance company, we will then get in touch to discuss your share with you. Upon your acceptance, we will proceed with the necessary repairs. 

What warranty do you offer on your repairs?

All our repairs come with a 12-month warranty. This includes warranty on labour, parts and refrigerant.  Unless stated otherwise due to the condition of parts.
